The Health and Disability System

Most health and disability services in New Zealand are publicly funded.

Government funding of health and disability services means that eligible people may receive free inpatient and outpatient public hospital services, subsidies on prescription items and a range of support services for people with disabilities in the community.

New Zealand citizens and residents as well as work permit holders are eligible for all health and disability services, however, to be eligible work permit holders must be lawfully in New Zealand and be holder of a work permit that is issued for a period of two years or more, and allows you to remain in New Zealand for a period of time that, when added together with the time you've already been lawfully in New Zealand, amounts to two consecutive years or more (eg, people who have had their work permit renewed).
